Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary

Catriona had been telling everyone how she had not been sick or had diarrhoea as everyone else on the trip had, but her luck finally ran out. She was up and down to the bathroom all night and did not get much sleep. It was a 5.30am wake up and David showered and went down to breakfast while Catriona stayed close to the bathroom. We had a 4 1/2 hour bus journey to Baratpur in a gold line coach that looked like it was on its last legs. The roads were very good so Catriona managed to sleep for most of the trip. We arrived at the hotel which was very upmarket with, lovely gardens, table tennis, massage and a swimming pool. David and the rest of the group had lunch (a buffet which they paid 300 rupee for but other guests had to pay 450) and Catriona had a sleep in the room. At 2.30pm we all met up for our trip into the park, a world heritage site. We rode in Cyclos with the driver being an expert bird spotter. We managed to see many different types of birds including painted stork, egrets, eagles, kingfishers, turtles, antelope, parakeets, cranes and many more.

We climbed a watchtower with great views over the lake and then set off back to the hotel. Again Catriona went back to the room and David had a buffet dinner with the group.
