Day 4 in Delhi

We met up with the group at 9am and headed off for the Metro to the Old City in Delhi. Our first stop in Old Delhi was the Saturn temple. Our tour leader Badam explained to us why all the temples we wad seen looked the same. Badam took us  thought little streets in the Old town to Jama Masjid. We had to take off our shoes and I had to wear a "special robe", I thought it was a bit strange that we did not have to cover our heads yet had to cover my cloths with a piece of material.

Next we stopped and had a local sweet "imirti" made from chick pea flour and deep fried them dipped in syrup, it tasted good.

We then headed to the Sheeshganj Gurudwara, a Sikh temple, where we saw them praying and cooking the food that they share with anyone. A couple of holy men wanted to pose with us to have their photo taken. Badam left us here giving us directions to the red fort which we visited after lunch.

We next had lunch at a little restaurant behind the Mosque then set off for the red fort, where we spent the rest of the afternoon.

RedFortOldDelhi 002 In the massive complex we visited Diwan-i-kas, a pavilion clad completely in marble and inlaid with semi precious stones. They are doing restoration work and one of the columns had been painted in gold just as it was in the Mughal emperors day.

While we were walking around the complex Catriona had many requests by women to have their photo taken with her, which was great as we were wanting to take photos of these women in their lovely saris.

RedFortOldDelhi 017  We visited the museum of the struggle for independence, Swatantrata Sangram Sanghrahalya, where we spent about an hour before heading back to the Metro. The walk back was very crowded and we had to stop and regroup a number of times. Two of the Americans, Anne and Mike had things stolen from their pockets on the walked back. We all had a drink on the rooftop to end he day before having dinner and setting off for bed.
